Nikon Launches The D700 Nikon Launches The D700

Amidst fake pictures, and many tech-blogs claiming to offer sneak previews of the Nikon D700's features, the truth it seems is finally come to the fore.We can finally give you some real updates with regard to the features. The D700, to begin with, has a 12.1MP FX-format (23.9 x 36mm) CMOS sensor, so at least that much stays true. It features broad ISO sensitivity up to 6400, while it will offer 5fps continuous shooting.

We reported earlier that the camera will feature a 3-inch LCD, and that stays true, along with the fact that the D700 comes with 51-point AF with 3D focus tracking.
This is what the folks over at Nikon have to say about the new D-SLR. "Nikon has developed a host of innovative technologies such as the Scene Recognition System and Picture Control, incorporating them into both FX and DX-format digital SLRs to ensure that photographers can leverage the advantages of both formats seamlessly, and achieve the end-results that best fulfill their photographic vision", said Edward Fasano, general manager for marketing, SLR System Products at Nikon, Inc.

A large pixel size of 8.45 µm allows for an extremely low signal-to-noise ratio and a wide dynamic range. The 12-channel readout enables accelerated information transfer, allowing the D700 to shoot at speeds of up to eight frames per second at full resolution (using the optional MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack) and quickly write image data onto the CompactFlash card.
